About the Author

C

I have always enjoyed writing. Throughout school, I took additional creative writing classes. My family always believed that I would write a book one day. I have not published, let alone attempted to write, a book in my lifetime. I still do enjoy writing however, and I felt that a blog would be the perfect place to start.

My sister and I always loved horses (she in fact may deserve the credit for getting that hobby train rolling). At age 8 and 11 we got our first horses, Jack and Cassidy. Cassidy was my sister’s heart horse, and they rode together until he sadly had to put down in 2015 (he did live a long and happy life). I went through four horses as a child before finding a good fit for me, Montana.

Perhaps my childhood horse was a foreshadowing of things to come. In 2021 we moved to the beautiful state of Montana. After we moved, I started taking riding lessons as I hadn’t owned a horse in ten years and had only ridden a handful of times during the decade. When I was ready to purchase a horse, I decided that I wanted a mustang. Of note, one of the horses that didn’t work out during my childhood was a Kiger Mustang. I decided that owning a mustang was a challenge that I wanted to overcome.

I now own two mustangs, Prairie and Ducky. While both horses have been challenging to a degree, they have taught me so much! I am grateful to them for all they have taught me, in addition to them trusting and respecting me. I am amazed at the fact that they once ran wild and they now allow me to sit upon their backs and give them cues to follow.

Thank you for taking the time to visit The Foody Cowgirl!

Sincerely,

Stephanie

Meet The Herd

We have two mustangs, Prairie and Ducky. Prairie is on the left. She is a 2016 14.2 HH Devil’s Garden Mustang mare. I have owned her since March 2023. Ducky is the mare on the right. She is a 2019 14 HH Four Mile Mustang. Prairie is generally more reserved. Ducky is a big goof ball that smiles frequently and likes to run.

Meet the Pack

We have two dogs, Oliver and Wren. Oliver is on the right. He is a mixed hound that we adopted in 2017. He is very intelligent and loyal. He generally doesn’t like other dogs, but has been accepting of Wren. We adopted Wren in 2024. She is likely an American Staffordshire mix. She frequently gets the zoomies, but also likes to cuddle. She thinks Oliver is better than sliced bread.

Meet the Flock

We have 21 hens and one rooster who is a bantam. The flock is a mix of Orpingtons, Marans, Easter Eggers, Oliver Eggers, Wyandottes, and Polish. Pictured are our two Polish hens. One was a rescue and one wandered onto our property and adopted us.
